The Oakridge School Video Production Class Presents the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Trailer!!

Thank you to Melissa Triebwasser and her Oakridge Video Production class for putting together some highlights from the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium which took place Wednesday, February 6th, at The Oakridge School campus.  The Video Production students worked very hard to capture some of the many magical moments from the day's academic festivities.

Once again, thanks to everyone from all the schools for making last Wednesday such a wonderful success. We look forward to next year's plans to do something similar - yet more expansive - with William Shakespeare's Richard III. For now, please enjoy the video!

Speaking for the presenters and participants from The Hockaday School, thank you very much for the many hours of hard work, expansive imagination, and dedication that made yesterday's colloquium such a fine success. As a teacher, I was proud of all of the students who attended: those who presented papers, those who asked provocative questions leading to engaged conversation, and those who respectfully  absorbed the intellectual activity--and friendship--that surrounded us all. And as a teacher I learned a great deal from the scholarship of so many, an energy that makes such conferences exciting intellectual and social occasions The event was, from beginning to end, colloborative (just as you so eloquently described it), providing a model for learning and teaching in the 21st century, a way of sharing ideas inclusively, so that the contribution of each person grew in meaning by its connection to the whole.

Nathaniel Plemons of The Oakridge School will be Reading His Paper "Dubliners as Viewed through the Lens of Aristotelean Ethics" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that one of its own owls, Nathaniel Plemons, will be presenting his paper, “Dubliners as Viewed through the Lens of Aristotelean Ethics,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th.  Great job Nathaniel!

Nathaniel Anson Plemons is a senior at The Oakridge School and has been enrolled there since 2001. In addition to the usual schedule imposed on students he sings in the aCappella choir and is captain of the varsity track team. He has been accepted to and will be attending Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where he will be pursuing a double major in Business and Economics as well as running on the varsity track team and joining an aCappella group. In his free time he likes to read by the fire with a cat in his lap and some mint tea in hand.

Mr. Plemons will be reading his paper during the first block of presentations in a session entitled “Cyclical Lives in the Narratives of Joyce’s Dubliners.”  The location of the session will be announced soon.

Zachary Burdette of St. Mark's School will be Reading His Paper "An Encounter with Reality" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is excited to announce that Zachary Burdette of St. Mark’s School will be presenting his paper, “An Encounter with Reality,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th. Congratulations Mr. Burdette; we are looking forward to hearing your presentation!

Zachary Burdette is a twelve year marksman at St. Mark’s. He dedicates the majority of his free time to competing in policy debate, and has been among the top teams nationally for two consecutive years. Zach is on the St. Mark’s Leadership and Ethics Board, co-founder of the Political Forum Club, and an Eagle Scout. He plans to major in international relations and security studies at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service.

Mr. Burdette will be reading his paper during the second block of presentations in a session entitled “Truth, Narrative, and the Masking of the Real in Joyce’s Dubliners.” The location of the session will be announced soon.

Lauren Davidson of The Oakridge School will be Reading Her Paper "Eveline's Fear Factor" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium

The Oakridge School celebrates one of its own owls, sophomore Lauren Davidson.  She will be presenting her paper, “Eveline’s Fear Factor,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th.

Lauren Davidson is a sophomore at The Oakridge School. She plays varsity volleyball and runs varsity track. She participates in the math team and is the Sophomore class vice president. She also sang in the TPSMEA All- State choir earlier this month. Outside of school, she plays tennis and loves to travel.

Ms. Davidson will be reading her paper during the second block of presentations in a session entitled “Understanding Eveline both as a Character and as a Narrative.”  The location of the session will be announced soon.  Way to go Lauren; we are excited to hear your presentation!

Zacharia Alden of St. Mark's School will be Reading His Paper "Paralysis: A Portrait of Death and Indecision" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates Zacharia Alden of St. Mark’s School.  He will be presenting his paper, “Paralysis: A Portrait of Death and Indecision,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th.  We are thrilled to hear his presentation.

Zacharia Alden entered St. Mark’s School in the 5^th grade, before which he attended the Lamplighter School. He is a member of the cycling club as well as the Disciplinary Council on campus. Zach will be attending Haverford College next fall, where he hopes to pursue a degree in Philosophy.

Mr. Alden will be reading his paper during the first block of presentations in a session entitled “Eveline, Paralysis, and the Challenge to Make a Choice.”  The location of the session will be announced soon.

Sydney Wilkins of The Hockaday School will be Reading Her Paper "From Snow and a Woman" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School welcomes Sydney Wilkins of The Hockaday School who will be presenting her paper, “From Snow and a Woman,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th. Congratulations Sydney! We look forward to hearing your presentation.

Sydney Wilkins has attended The Hockaday School for the past four years. In school, she enjoys participating in the school plays, the Fine Arts Boards, the Girl Talk community service program, and writing for her school’s newspaper. Outside of school, Sydney is a member of the National Charity League and Teenage Communication Theater. Teenage Communication Theater is a community service program through which teens educate the Dallas community on different social issues through interactive skits. In college, Sydney hopes to major broadcast journalism and minor in music business or public relations.
