Sarah Harrison of Fort Worth Country Day School will be Reading Her Paper "Social Paralysis in Dublin" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates Sarah Harrison of Fort Worth Country Day School.  She will be presenting her paper, “Social Paralysis in Dublin,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Sarah Harrison is a junior at Fort Worth Country Day.  She has attended FWCD since ninth grade.  She enjoys reading books such as The Hunger Games and Great Gatsby on her free time.  She also enjoys making pottery for ceramics.  After attending college, she hopes to be a lawyer specializing in international law and to spend her time traveling around the world immersing into new cultures.  She is excited for this opportunity to present at the Dubliners Colloquium. 

Ms. Harrison will be reading her paper during the second block of presentations in a session entitled “Paralysis in A Little Cloud and Other Stories of Joyce’s Dubliners.” The location of the session will be announced soon.

Sara Shah of Fort Worth Country Day School will be Reading Her Short Story "A Tribute to Joyce" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted by The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates Sara Shah of Fort Worth Country Day School.  She will be reading her short story, “A Tribute to Joyce,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium during a special creative workshop to be hosted by Mr. Lucas Jacob, Dean of Learning and Curriculum of Trinity Valley School.

Sara Shah attends Fort Worth Country Day School. She is currently a senior. Shah is the managing editor of her high school newspaper, The Falcon Quill. She has served on the newspaper staff for four years. She is also a staff member of the school's literary magazine, The Prism. She has had various poems published, and she has been published in Burning Word, a professional quarterly literary journal.  She hopes to attend a liberal arts school in the Northeast. Shah enjoys reading, writing, and traveling. 

Ms. Shah will be reading her story during the first block of presentations in a special creative writing workshop. The session will take place at 9:15am on the second floor of The Oakridge School Library. We look forward to hearing Ms. Shah read her creative work of fiction this February!

Ricky Rodriguez of Fort Worth Country Day School will be Reading His Paper "Adolescents: Children or Adults?" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that Ricky Rodriguez of Fort Worth Country Day School will be presenting his paper “Adolescents: Children or Adults?” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Ricky Rodriguez is 17 years old and currently a junior at Fort Worth Country Day. Ricky truly enjoys cultural studies, especially languages, as he speaks English, Spanish, French, and Italian. Consequently, studying Dubliners was very interesting in viewing an Irish perspective of the English language. Ricky is also a member of Fort Worth Sister Cities International where he has participated in various summer programs, traveled abroad, and is currently serving as the FWSCI Youth Board’s Cultural Orientations Officer. His other main interest includes running as he is on both the cross country and track teams at school.

Mr. Rodriguez will be reading his paper during the first block of presentations in a session entitled “Truth, Isolation, and Social Space in Araby, After the Race, and Other Stories.”  The location of the session will be announced soon.

Patrick Gordon of Fort Worth Country Day School will be Reading His Paper "A Famine of Adventure" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium

Congratulations to Patrick Gordon of Fort Worth Country Day School! He will be reading his paper "A Famine of Adventure" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium hosted at The Oakridge School.

Patrick Gordon is currently a junior at Fort Worth Country Day, where he has attended since Kindergarten. He is a member of the Student Council, Link Crew, Chess Club, and president of Computer Club. Patrick is also a member of the FWCD band and jazz combination. He plays football and baseball, and has aspirations of playing baseball at a collegiate level, where he hopes to study medicine or law.

Mr. Gordon will be reading his paper during the first block of presentations (9:15am-10:40am) in a session entitled "Cyclical Lives in the Narratives of Joyce's Dubliners" on February 6th, 2013. The location will be announced soon.

The Oakridge School is pleased to announce that Mr. Lucas Jacob, Dean of Learning and Curriculum, at Trinity Valley School will be hosting the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium’s creative writing workshop.

The Oakridge School is excited to host Mr. Lucas Jacob, Dean of Learning and Curriculum, of Trinity Valley School who will be teaching a creative writing workshop for all students that submitted creative pieces for the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.  We are grateful that he has graciously agreed to contribute to the day’s exciting, academic festivities.

Lucas Jacob has taught creating writing and English in various parts of the United States and abroad for the past 17 years.  His poems and essays have appeared in dozens of journals, including Southwest Review  and Willow Review, and are forthcoming in Evansville Review and DMQ Review.  He is a 2012 semi-finalist for the Normal Mailer Award in short fiction, has two poems shortlisted for the 2012 Fish Publishing Poetry Prize, and is a past winner of the Gival Press Tri-Language Poetry Prize.  He is allergic to cats, but not to James Joyce, whose Dubliners  and Ulysses he studied in college and whose A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Finnegan’s Wake he studied in grad school.

All students interested in creative writing are welcome to attend and observe the workshop. The session itself will focus on the creative material submitted by students for the actual Colloquium.  We look forward to seeing curious, creative students attend the day’s ceremonies, and once again, we want to thank Mr. Lucas Jacob for agreeing to be a part of our event. We’ll see you in February!
