Daniel Clifford of The Oakridge School will be Reading His Paper, "On the Experience of Reading Dubliners" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium

The Oakridge School is thrilled to announce that one of its very own owls, Daniel Clifford, will be presenting his paper, “On the Experience of Reading Dubliners,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th. Congratulations Dan!

Dan Clifford is in his senior year at the Oakridge School. He is ecstatic to talk about Dubliners at the conference - it has become one of his favorite books. Besides talking about Modernist literature, Dan also enjoys rock'n'roll music (as well as music of any kind) and watching great movies and television. If you care, his favorites of each medium (at the moment) are Grimes' Visions, Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche New York, and David Lynch and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks.

Samantha Carp of The Greenhill School will be Reading Her Paper "A Little Cloud: Doubting Dublin" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates Samantha Carp of The Greenhill School. She will be presenting her paper, “A Little Cloud: Doubting Dublin,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th. We are excited to hear her presentation!

Samantha Carp is a senior at Greenhill School. She has been studying at Greenhill since Kindergarten. Her favorite subjects are English and history. She has particularly enjoyed reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, by Junot Diaz. She will continue her education next fall at Emory University. She has not yet decided what she plans on majoring in.

Warren Smith of St. Mark's School will be Reading His Paper "Students Sitting in the Classroom of Planet Earth: An Examination of Epiphanies in The Dead" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is excited to announce that Warren Smith of St. Mark’s School will be presenting his paper “Students Sitting in the Classroom of Planet Earth: An Examination of Epiphanies in The Dead” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th. Congratulations Warren Smith!

Warren Smith, a senior at St. Mark's School of Texas, has been a member of his school's Community Service Board for four years and is a vice-chairman this year. He is a captain of both the swimming and water polo teams, and is a member of the Telos Society. For the next four years, Warren will be studying engineering at Brown University.

Caroline Boyd-Rogers of The Oakridge School will be Reading Her Short Story "Manhood" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th

The Oakridge School celebrates one of its own, sophomore Caroline Boyd-Rogers. She will be reading her short story “Manhood” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th. She will be reading her work in special creative writing workshop session host by Mr. Lucas Jacob, Dean of Learning and Curriculum at Trinity Valley School.

Caroline Boyd-Rogers is a sophomore at The Oakridge School. She is a gymnast at Treviño's Gymnastics. She has a great interest in European History and would like to pursue the subject in a future career. Caroline aspires to be a published author, but despises writing personal bios.

Ms. Boyd-Rogers will be reading her story in the first block of presentations in a special creative writing workshop session that will take place on the second floor of the Oakridge library. Way to go Caroline! We’re excited to hear your story!

Maya Deshpande of The Hockaday School will be Reading Her Paper "Araby and The Dead: The Pitfalls of Eros" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School proudly announces that Maya Deshpande of The Hockaday School will be presenting her paper, “Araby and The Dead: The Pitfalls of Eros,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th.

Maya Deshpande is a senior at the Hockaday School, and has attended Hockaday since the 7^th grade.  She is interested in biology, literature, and politics, has been an active member of the Hockaday debate team for 4 years, and has done classical Indian dance for 8 years.

Andrew Spomer of The Greenhill School will be Reading His Paper "After the Race: How Social Status Defines yet Fails to Predict Character" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School announces that Andrew Spomer of The Greenhill School will be presenting his paper, “After the Race: How Social Status Defines yet Fails to Predict Character,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium this February 6th. Congratulations Mr. Spomer!

Andrew "Andrew" Spomer is a broad-shouldered and confident man with aboriginal roots. In the summer time, he enjoys basking in the moonlight and wearing leotards (don't get any ideas, ladies). Although he was accepted into 43 different colleges (44 if you carry the one), he will be taking a gap year in order to pursue his dreams of starting a rice farm in the Himalayas. He is allergic to meat and freckles and don't ask him about his elbows.

Sarah Harrison of Fort Worth Country Day School will be Reading Her Paper "Social Paralysis in Dublin" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates Sarah Harrison of Fort Worth Country Day School.  She will be presenting her paper, “Social Paralysis in Dublin,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Sarah Harrison is a junior at Fort Worth Country Day.  She has attended FWCD since ninth grade.  She enjoys reading books such as The Hunger Games and Great Gatsby on her free time.  She also enjoys making pottery for ceramics.  After attending college, she hopes to be a lawyer specializing in international law and to spend her time traveling around the world immersing into new cultures.  She is excited for this opportunity to present at the Dubliners Colloquium.

Steven Tsai of St. Mark's School will be Reading His Paper "Araby and the Road to Enlightenment" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is excited to announce that Steven Tsai of St. Mark’s School will be presenting his paper, “Araby and the Road to Enlightenment,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th. We are looking forward to hearing his presentation.

Steven Tsai, having previously attended Rice Middle School in Plano, is a senior and a four-year Marksman at St. Mark's. He is a second-degree black belt in karate, principal clarinetist of the 2012 Honor Orchestra of America, and wei-chi (Go) teacher at Tzu-Chi Sunday School. In his spare time, he enjoys fencing and folding origami. He hopes to one day enter the medical field.

Kate Hoffman of The Hockaday School will be Reading Her Paper "Gabriel in The Dead as a Middle Man" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is proud to host Kate Hoffman at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium.  She will be reading her paper, “Gabriel in The Dead as a Middle Man,” the morning of February 6th, and we are excited to hear her presentation.

Kate Hoffman is a senior at The Hockaday School, where she has attended since Pre-K, not including the semester she spent away during her junior year at the School for Ethics and Global Leadership in Washington D.C.. While at Hockaday, she has participated in Student Council and Yearbook, as well as co-founded the Hockaday Students Against Sweatshops club. Outside of school, Kate enjoys playing tennis and taking piano lessons. Right now, on her bedside table rests poetry books by E.E. Cummings and T.S. Eliot as well a collection of David Sedaris short stories. And in college, Kate hopes to pursue Politics and Human Rights.

Robert Erickson of Cistercian Preparatory School will be Reading His Paper "An Unfortunate Paralysis" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is excited to host Robert Erickson of Cistercian Preparatory School on February 6th. Robert will be presenting his paper, “An Unfortunate Paralysis,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium. Congratulations Mr. Erickson!

Robert Erickson is currently a junior at Cistercian, the school he has attended since the fifth grade. In addition to English and literature, he enjoys math, science, and music. In his spare time, Robert competes in baseball and basketball; in addition, he has been playing the piano for twelve years, and is close to becoming an Eagle Scout. His main motivation in writing about the story, “Eveline”, was that something about the story resonated with what he knew to be true by experience (even though the tale is much more drastic). Initially, Robert struggled to find a clear vision of what that was, so this paper could be thought of as a record of his personal exploration of the matter.

Maren Miller of The Oakridge School will be Reading Her Paper "The Accidental Muses: How Irish Society and Its Treatment of Women Affected the Creation of Dubliners" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that one of its very own Owls, Maren Miller, will be presenting her paper, “The Accidental Muses: How Irish Society and Its Treatment of Women Affected the Creation of Dubliners,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Maren Miller is a junior at The Oakridge School in Arlington, Texas. She is Secretary of the Executive Student Council Board, Vice-President of the Current Events Club, a volunteer AP European History tutor, and a Varsity Softball player. She received The President's Volunteer Service Award in 2012 for her work at the Bedford Public Library and St. Vincent's School mentoring and tutoring students. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and traveling.

Sara Shah of Fort Worth Country Day School will be Reading Her Short Story "A Tribute to Joyce" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted by The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates Sara Shah of Fort Worth Country Day School.  She will be reading her short story, “A Tribute to Joyce,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium during a special creative workshop to be hosted by Mr. Lucas Jacob, Dean of Learning and Curriculum of Trinity Valley School.

Sara Shah attends Fort Worth Country Day School. She is currently a senior. Shah is the managing editor of her high school newspaper, The Falcon Quill. She has served on the newspaper staff for four years. She is also a staff member of the school's literary magazine, The Prism. She has had various poems published, and she has been published in Burning Word, a professional quarterly literary journal.  She hopes to attend a liberal arts school in the Northeast. Shah enjoys reading, writing, and traveling.

Hannah Crowe of The Hockaday School will be Reading Her Paper "A Traditional Holiday Dinner Party" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted by the Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is excited to host Hannah Crowe of The Hockaday School at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium. She will be presenting her paper, “A Traditional Holiday Dinner Party,” at the conference this February 6th.

Hannah Crowe is a senior at The Hockaday School, which she has attended for fourteen years. Her main interests in school are English and history, but she also loves Spanish. She enjoys doing community service and playing the piano. Hannah is excited to attend Rice University next fall.

Noah Yonack of St. Mark's School will be Reading His Paper "Helpless Animals: Axiomatic Paralysis in Dubliners" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium Hosted by The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates Noah Yonack of the St. Mark’s School. He will be presenting his paper, “Helpless Animals: Axiomatic Paralysis in Dubliners,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Noah Yonack is a senior at the St. Mark’s School of Texas. He is a vice-chairman on the School’s community service board, the news editor on the The ReMarker school newspaper, and is a member of the Telos mentoring society, the varsity cross country team, and the tennis team. He will be studying mechanical and electrical engineering at Harvard University next fall.

Benjamin Fallis of The Oakridge School will be Reading His Paper "Interpellation's Limits: Social Space and Narrative Structures in Dubliners" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium

The Oakridge School is excited to announce that one of its very own, Benjamin Fallis, will be presenting his paper, “Interpellation’s Limits: Social Space and Narrative Structures in Dubliners” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th. Way to go Ben!

Benjamin Fallis is a student of The Oakridge School. His interests are most commonly found outside of the classroom; he writes poetry and enjoys reading the Danish philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard, as well as Althusserian critical theory as it applies to history and politics. He also spends time reading the American poet Wallace Stevens. Ben served as Poetry Editor for two years for the Oakridge art and literature magazine, Calliope, and he serves on the committee which runs the book fair while also playing on the Oakridge Drumline.

Ricky Rodriguez of Fort Worth Country Day School will be Reading His Paper "Adolescents: Children or Adults?" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that Ricky Rodriguez of Fort Worth Country Day School will be presenting his paper “Adolescents: Children or Adults?” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Ricky Rodriguez is 17 years old and currently a junior at Fort Worth Country Day. Ricky truly enjoys cultural studies, especially languages, as he speaks English, Spanish, French, and Italian. Consequently, studying Dubliners was very interesting in viewing an Irish perspective of the English language. Ricky is also a member of Fort Worth Sister Cities International where he has participated in various summer programs, traveled abroad, and is currently serving as the FWSCI Youth Board’s Cultural Orientations Officer. His other main interest includes running as he is on both the cross country and track teams at school.

Brennan Baker of The Greenhill School will be Reading His Paper "Joyce's Eveline: Finding a Means by which to Rationalize Her Circumstances" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is excited to host Brennan Baker of The Greenhill School at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium. He will be presenting his paper, “Joyce’s Eveline: Finding a Means by which to Rationalize Her Circumstances,” at the conference this February 6th.

Brennan Baker is an inquisitive and creative Greenhill student who loves to explore the world and marvel at the simple wonders around him.  He enjoys reading, writing, playing video games, competing in sports, walking, and taking time to notice that he is breathing.  He has been attending Greenhill School since he was in pre-kindergarten, and he will be going to Wesleyan University this fall.  Brennan lives in Plano with his Mom and Dad.

Maille Radford of The Hockaday School will be Reading Her Paper "The Dead and Paralysis" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates Maille Radford of The Hockaday School. She will be presenting her paper, “The Dead and Paralysis,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium.

Maille Radford is currently a senior at the Hockaday School. She has taken studio art for four years and hopes to combine her interest in science and love of the arts through art conservation. She is a member of the Nasher Sculpture Center Student Advisory Board and has interned at both the Meadows Museum of Southern Methodist University and the Kimbell Art Museum. Though interested in visual arts, Maille has always enjoyed literature and is appreciative of the opportunity to exchange ideas about James Joyce and his revolutionary style with other students.

Meyer Thalheimer of St. Mark's School will be Reading His Paper "Lacan's Dublin" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is pleased to announce that Meyer Thalheimer of St. Mark’s School will be presenting his paper, “Lacan’s Dublin,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Meyer is a senior at St. Mark’s, where he has been a student there since the seventh grade. An avid debater, he enjoys the historical, philosophical, and political interplay ever-present in literary criticism. He is president of the debate team and co-founder of the school Political Forum as well as a proud National Merit Semifinalist.

Robert Stroup of Southwest Christian School will be Reading His Paper "A Failed Mission" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is thrilled to host Robert Stroup of Southwest Christian School. He will be reading his paper, “A Failed Mission,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Bobby Stroup is a senior at Southwest Christian School.  He will be attending the United States Naval Academy this fall and is planning on pursuing a degree in engineering.  Bobby enjoys physical activity as well as writing rhymes, raps, poems, or whatever you want to call them.  Two lessons he would like to live by are the following: (1) "If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness," and (2) "Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Adam Schrock of The Oakridge School will be Reading His Paper "James Joyce, Ace Philosopher" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium

The Oakridge School is very pleased to announce that one of its very own, Mr. Adam Schrock, will be presenting his paper, “James Joyce, Ace Philosopher,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium.

Adam Schrock is a nine-year veteran of The Oakridge School and is currently in his senior year. He intends to graduate and enroll at the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and study chemical engineering (although his major will likely change numerous times). He wrote his Dubliners Conference submission to appease his philosophy teacher, Mr. Colley, a man without whom the conference would not have been possible. His paper’s subject matter relates to a recent philosophy lesson concerning the concept of “being towards death” and to the political atmosphere contemporary to the novel’s setting and authorship. Adam prefers not to talk about himself (even if it is in third-person), so he hasn’t much left to say. He is glad to have been able to participate in the first conference of many that are sure to come.

Kelly Gross of Southwest Christian School will be Reading Her Paper "Confinement, Paralysis, and Choosing to Live" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that Kelly Gross of Southwest Christian School will be presenting her paper, “Confinement, Paralysis, and Choosing to Live” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February, 6th.

Kelly Gross has been at Southwest Christian School for fifteen years, and is eagerly looking forward to college life next year. She intends on following a pre-medical track at Hendrix College, Northeastern University, or Boston University. As such, she enjoys volunteering at Cook Children’s Hospital.  A proud participant in the theatre arts, she has been in fourteen shows and is currently preparing to play the role of Madame Thenardier in her school’s upcoming production of Les Miserables. Her other passions include cheerleading, reading, writing, and listening to music.

James Rowan of St. Mark's School will be Reading His Paper "Earthlings: Dubliners Today" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium to be Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School congratulates James Rowan of St. Mark’s School! He will be presenting his paper, “Earthlings: Dubliners Today,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

James Rowan is a senior at the St. Mark’s School of Texas.  He captains the physics, quiz bowl, and math teams, coaches the middle school math team, and plays on the school ultimate frisbee and fencing teams.  He will be studying mathematics at MIT next year.

Kaitlin Dorey of The Hockaday School will be Reading Her Paper "Gabriel Then, Gabriel Now" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium to be Hosted at The Oakridge School

The Oakridge School is excited to host Kaitlin Dorey of The Hockaday School. She will be presenting her paper, “Gabriel Then, Gabriel Now,” at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th.

Kaitlin Dorey is a senior at The Hockaday School, which she has attended for fourteen years. In school, her interests are English and history, but she also enjoys math. Kaitlin participates on her Varsity Swim Team as well as on a club swim team, Elite Swim Program. She doesn’t know where she’s attending school next year, but she’s excited to find out. While in college, she hopes to major in marketing. This is Kaitlin’s first colloquium and she could not be more thrilled to participate.

Hirsh Elhence of The Greenhill School will be Reading His Paper "Dublin's Call for and Decimation of Love: A Look at Companionship and Apathy" at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium

The Oakridge School is proud to announce that Hirsh Elhence of The Greenhill School will be presenting his paper, "Dublin's Call for and Decimation of Love: A Look at Companionship and Apathy," at the 2013 Dubliners Colloquium on February 6th, 2013.

Hirsh Elhence was born in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to Dallas at the age of 9 months. Four years later he began studying at Greenhill School where he has learned to read, write, spell, draw, play, think, and preform basic arithmetic. With these valuable skills, he hopes to conform to the archetype of being an Indian doctor. In his spare time Hirsh enjoys walking, working on music, and leading a sedentary lifestyle. Hirsh will be attending Dartmouth College in the fall and he is ridiculously excited. He plans on majoring in economics and following a pre-med track.
